Pressure mapping tests the amount of pressure your body registers on a selected
surface. This technology is widely used throughout the bedding industry to
determine the quantity of pressure that a mattress or pillow creates on your
body.
Pressure from your mattress and/or pillow prevents your muscles from relaxing
which makes it difficult to fall asleep and impairs circulation causing you to
toss & turn which makes it difficult to stay asleep.
Therefore, the less pressure your mattress and pillow produce on your body the

THE LATEX-PEDIC® BARIATRIC MATTRESS TALALAY
PROCESS
- 1. Latex
compound is injected with air and frothed to form foam.
- 2. The
foam is poured into an aluminum mold. The mold is only partially filled with
foam.
- 3. The
mold is closed. The pressure inside the mold is reduced to create a pressure
differential between the cavity of the mold and the air in the foam bubbles.
Since the air in the foam bubbles is at atmospheric pressure and the mold
pressure is lower than atmospheric, the air inside the bubbles expands
causing the bubbles to increase in size expanding the foam. The foam expands
and fills the mold. At the same time the foam redistributes itself evenly in
the mold since the pressure inside the bubbles is driven to equalize over
the entire block. Equalization of pressure in all the bubbles leads to a
very uniform density throughout the foam block.
- 4. The
water in the foam is then frozen.
- 5. After
freezing, carbon dioxide is injected. The carbon dioxide reduces the pH of
the foam and reduces the effectiveness of the soap at stabilizing the rubber
in the latex. The rubber particles coalescence forming a continuous, open
cell, solid block of foam rubber.
- 6. The
foam is heated to vulcanize the rubber.
- 7. The
foam is cooled and demolded.

This patented support surface design
was developed by Span-America in the late 1980’s in conjunction
with Dr. Thomas Krouskop of the Baylor School of Medicine.
Computer-guided equipment is used to cut foam into a geometric
pattern of supportive cubes that are undercut with an open
channel.

Unlike flat or convoluted
("egg crate") foam, these individual cubes allow the surface to
conform to the body and accommodate bony prominences, redistributing pressure
across the support surface. This minimizes the pulling of the
skin and tissue over bony prominences, thereby offsetting the
harmful effects of shearing forces.
The “Ring of Air” helps to disperse
heat and moisture away
from the body and out into the atmosphere. The channel also
assists in pressure management by providing, in effect, a layer
of air between two layers of foam to enhance conformance of the
foam to the body.

Do I Qualify for a
Medicare
Approved Hospital Bed?
Medicare will
cover a hospital bed
when you can show a medical necessity for the bed. You must also be
covered under Medicare Part B and have been assessed by your doctor. The
doctor must document your need in your medical records and write you an
order (prescription) for the equipment. Only your doctor cthe equipment
for you, so do not order anything until you have visited your doctor.
The supplier must receive the order before Medicare is
billed and it must be kept on file by the supplier.
How Do I
Qualify For a Medicare Approved Hospital Bed?
To qualify for a
Medicare Approved
hospital bed you must show that you:

Change positions in ways not possible on a normal
bed
-
Lay or sleep in positions not possible with a
normal bed in order to relieve pain
-
Have to sleep with the head of the bed higher than
30 degrees because of conditions such as congestive heart failure,
breathing problems, or other types of problems
-
Use traction equipment that must be attached to a
hospital bed
The above is the basic criteria for coverage for
hospital beds.
How
Much Does It Cost to Rent or Buy a Hospital Bed?
After you have paid your annual deductible, you will
pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for the hospital bed purchase or
rental and maintenance. If you have Medigap/Medicare Supplemental
insurance you may have little to no out-of-pocket cost.
