A Patient Lift (or Hoyer Patient Lift) is usually a battery powered device that is used to help transfer physically disabled patients. (They don't make a crank any more; and hydraullic lifts are almost out of date). There are three basic types of patient lifts: mobile lifts, overhead lifts and sit-to-stand lifts. (Today, many overhead lifts, are often installed when new hospitals, nursing homes, etc. are built; and sometimes allow patients themselves to help propel themselves.) Together with a patient lift, some type of sling, normally made of textile fabric such as cotton or polyester, is used. Slings are available in many different models and variants for optimal function in different lifting situations e.g., lifting to/from bed, to/from the toilet or for turning the patient in bed. The main rationale for using patient lifts is to prevent occupational injuries that can be caused by repeated manual lifting. Normally, much consideration is also given to the patients comfort and wellbeing. Today, the use of patient lifts is considered a more dignified means of transferring a patient than manual lifting and transfer. We have to address the primary needs, uses and goals of the Patient Lift. Many leading manufacturers of patient lifts are Molift Patient Lift

Is the Patient Lift to help you get into the wheelchair? (Patient Lifts do not work in the bath tub - we have something that works in the bath tub) Is this to help you get into the bathroom? Do you need a portable unit that you can travel with (or a unit that is very easy to put away, and does not take a lot of room) When you get a sling, do you need head support; . . are you using this for toilet, for shower, . . .there are many different types, styles and sizes of slings Will the patient be in the sling for a long period of time. If you are in the market for a Pool or Spa Lift, is the Pool or Spa above ground or flush with the ground? There are many sit to stand lifts. Does the Patient do find once they are standing? What type of carpet do you have; what type of floor do you have. We have the best recommendations here. You may be lifting a patient from the bed to a wheelchair or need a lift that is small and comfortable for "Sit to Stand-up Training.
There are many small, easy and comfortable lifters for transfers and stand-up training. Many lifts will meet the demand for sit-to-sit transfers for patients that have trouble standing, but are able to participate to some extent in the lift.
